The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund (IALDF) is a national nonprofit dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil, political, and economic rights of the Iranian-American community. We use impact litigation, legal advocacy, and public education, as tools to combat discrimination and promote equity. Our work addresses urgent and evolving legal challenges affecting our community–including immigration issues, civil rights violations, banking discrimination, and hate crimes.

Position Overview:

The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund (IALDF) is seeking a skilled and mission-driven Paralegal to support its litigation and advocacy work. The Paralegal will play a critical role in case preparation, legal research, drafting support, discovery management, and coordination with volunteer attorneys and interns. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to civil rights impact work in a startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in drafting motions, briefs, declarations, and legal memoranda under supervision
  • Conduct document reviews and manage discovery: organizing, indexing, coding, and summarizing key documents
  • Perform legal research (statutes, case law, regulations)and prepare annotated summaries
  • Support case intake operations: screen new submissions, draft intake summaries, help triage cases
  • Coordinate with interns, volunteer attorneys, and outside counsel on case workflow
  • Prepare exhibits, affidavits, and ancillary documents for court filings
  • Track deadlines and maintain case calendars
  • Help assemble educational and outreach materials, such aslegal guides or FAQs
  • Interface with technology systems (legal managementdatabases, secure document repositories)
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive and client-related materials
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Excellent organizational, detail-oriented, and multitasking abilities
  • Comfort managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a small legal team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse, multilingual communities preferred
  • Fluency in Farsi and/or familiarity with the Iranian-American community and its legal issues are a plus but not required.  
Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
