|
| IALDF and Public Citizen Litigation Group are suing the U.S. government for sharing Iranian asylum seekers' confidential information with the Islamic Republic. These freedom fighters fled Iran fearing imprisonment, torture, or death. Then, while enduring a prolonged detention, ICE delivered them to face agents of that same murderous regime who already knew their names and their asylum information. Terrified and betrayed, many now believe the system expected to protect them is delivering them back to their persecutors on a silver platter. |

|
What happened
As part of its mass deportation efforts, the U.S. government began in March of 2025
sharing confidential asylum records of Iranian asylum seekers with the Islamic Republic
— the very regime many of them fled to survive. Federal law prohibits disclosure of asylum records to a person's country of origin. Congress enacted these protections precisely because lives depend on them.
|
“By disclosing sensitive information about asylum seekers to the Iranian Government, facilitating meetings with Iranian Interest Section officials, and allowing the Iranian Government a role in selecting those to be deported, the U.S. government has materially increased the likelihood that Iranian asylum seekers will be
detained, interrogated, tortured, or killed
upon return.”

"We got involved because of the people we met in detention — men and women who came to the United States seeking asylum, hoping for freedom.
Instead, our government betrayed them.

| 03 |
