From Aspiring Lawyer to Legal Limbo
The Law School Admission Council has locked Iranian Americans, including US citizens, out of its platform — cutting off scores, applications, and registrations they already paid for, days before their exams.

|
On August 24, 2026, the Office of Foreign Assets Control suspended General License G, which for over a decade had authorized professional certification and university entrance exams for Iranian nationals. It recognized a basic truth: students pursuing an education are not a national security threat.

People are waking up unable to sit for an exam scheduled days from now. Years of preparation and hundreds of dollars in fees, gone. The next test date is months away, with no guarantee they will be allowed to take it — putting an entire application cycle out of reach.
|
This is what collective punishment looks like.

These sanctions do not distinguish between the Iranian government and an Iranian American who has lived here for years and wants to become a lawyer.
Our community has always met adversity with resilience. Lawyers, advocates, and community leaders mobilized the moment this broke, working to understand the scope of the suspension and what can be done. That spirit is unchanged.
